IIHS Bestows Top Safety Pick + Rating on the 2017 BMW 5 Series
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently rated the 2017 BMW 5 Series a "Top Safety Pick +", a welcome recognition of BMW's long time commitment to state-of-the-art automotive safety.
To earn the rating, the 2017 BMW 5 Series had to earn "Good" ratings in the five IIHS crash tests for small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. The optional front crash prevention system also earned a rating of "Superior," while the headlights received a "Good" rating.
The IIHS lauded the vehicle's body design and structure for helping to augment the vehicle's small overlap front crash test performance, with test results indicating minimal intrusion at the driver's footrest putting the driver's space at low risk of significant injury in a real-world crash. Additionally, the 5 Series received a "Superior" rating in front crash prevention when the vehicle is appointed with available Frontal Collision Warning with either City Collision Mitigation or Extended Collision Mitigation.
This latest generation of the 5 Series is the most innovative to date, featuring standard and available safety measures that include Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Evasion Aid, Cross Traffic Alert and more.
